Finding the right bit for a horse feels like a search that is akin to climbing mount doom, it takes forever and for a lot of the journey it seems impossible. I have a mare who is hot and sensitive and affronted by pressure in her mouth and so I have ended up buying bit after bit to try and find that magical one that will fit her and give me any sort of input, I even made an attempt to go bitless for a while.

Finally, I came across the Meroth leather bit and this has been a game changer for my horse. It is gentle enough that she doesn’t brace and resist against it but it is also solid enough that my communication doesn’t become muddled. The first time I rode in it I was amazed at how she started looking for the connection with my hands. It also says I can go bridle-less with this bit and I can’t wait to try that out too!

Another really unique quality about this but is the way it molds to the mouth- my horse also has a small palate and using a leather bit has made that fit so much more comfortable for her than a traditional bit that has little yield. It is so nice to finally have some light and connected moments while riding. One of the coolest things that I was able to discern while riding was at the canter I was able to feel when my mare was trying to resist what I was asking but when I gave a half halt she really stretched down into the bit instead of popping up and this is something she had never done before and it made for a beautiful and balanced movement. I am so glad I found the Meroth bit!
